It looks that after huge uproar on Reservation in IITs for students, the issue will again heat up on having reservation in IITs for faculties.

Most of the faculties in IITs are opposing this and feels IITs are institute of national importance and hence any kind of reservation should not be forced on it.

IIT Guwahati director Prof Gautam Barua in an conference today told reporters today that the IITs for the last 36 years had no reservation in recruitment of faculty members.

In 1972, there was an government order issues as per which all government education institutes have to maintain a certain level of reservation for faculties excluding Department of Space, Atomic Energy and Defence. Since IITs were not in the list, they have to follow the guidelines on reservation too.

The directors of all the IITs have decided to send a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him to keep IITs in the 1972 list.
