Review of NOKIA N81 8GB
By Dhadkan of India • Dec 6th, 2007 • Category: Mobiles
There is simply no denying that the Nokia N81-8GB is one of the most incredible phones on the market. This amazing device has features galore, an attractive exterior, and is still easy enough for any average consumer to use. If you are looking for an amazing media player, cell phone hybrid but you don't want to support Apple's products – the Nokia N81-8GB is the phone for you.
The Nokia N81-8GB is a quad band GSM phone so you can use it anywhere in the world simply by swapping out the SIM card with the one given to you by a local cell phone provider. It also offers 3G support. Here's the drawback – the 3G support is only available in Europe or Asia. You're stuck on the low speed GPRS or EDGE network here in the United States. It's unfortunate, but the Apple iPhone suffers from the same shortcoming.
If it is anything, the Nokia N81-8GB is not exactly small or light. The Nokia N81-8GB measures in at approximately four inches by two inches by one inch and weighs a hefty 140 grams. This size and weight, however, allow for a decent battery that will last for four hours of talk time or 408 hours of standby time. Also, considering how much technology is in the Nokia N81-8GB, it's actually amazing that it is so small.
The front of this incredible device features the characteristic high end Nokia LCD screen. You get 2.4 inches of 240 pixels by 320 pixels, sixteen million color goodness. Other great features on the Nokia N81-8GB include a 2.0 Megapixel digital camera with twenty times digital zoom and a flash, a secondary camera for video calling, a video and music player which supports a huge list of file types, an FM radio, a visual radio, Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth support, a speakerphone, and a variety of voice commands.
But that's not all. You've probably been wondering why this phone is called the Nokia N81-8GB. Unlike earlier models of the N81, the Nokia N81-8GB includes a built in 8GB hard drive for storage of all of the movies, music, and pictures you can imagine. However, this also means that there is no support for expandable memory. The Nokia N81-8GB also runs on S60 over Symbian as its operating system for plenty of power.
Pros
- Amazing feature list
- Stylish
- Wi-Fi support
- 3G support
- Built in hard drive
Cons
- No 3G support in America
- No expandable memory
- Very pricey
Overall
If you've got the money and you want one of the hottest phones out there, the Nokia N81-8GB may just be for you. It's no iPhone, but it does pack in an impressive number of highly useful features. Recommended – but check out what else you can get in the high end market before you buy the Nokia N81-8GB.
