Review of NOKIA N95 8GB
By Dhadkan of India • Dec 6th, 2007 • Category: Mobiles
The N95-8GB is a brand new phone from Nokia, the makers of the incredibly famous (and high priced) N95. Taking a cue from Apple's iPhone, the Nokia N95-8GB features a built in 8 Gigabyte hard drive for storage of tons of music, videos, and photos. Although other phones have stolen the limelight away from Nokia since the release of the first N95, Nokia is shooting high with this impressive new phone, and looks like it may be able to restore some of its share in the high end, high tech cell phone marketplace.
As is the case with the majority of Nokia phones, the Nokia N95-8GB is designed for use on the GSM quad-band networks so that it can be used throughout the world with the quick change of a SIM card. It features 3G support for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbit/s over HSDPA. The Nokia N95-8GB is also backwards compatible with older GPRS and EDGE networks for data transfer.
Since the Nokia N95-8GB is technically a smartphone, it is a fairly large device, clocking in at approximately 4 inches by 2 inches by 1 inch, and weighing in at about 128 grams. However, Nokia's design team has really utilized the space given, granting users the benefit of a battery that can last for 5 hours of talk time and 280 hours of standby time. Furthermore, the screen on the Nokia N95-8GB measures in at 2.8 inches on the diagonal, cramming in a massive 240 by 320 pixels and 16 million colors for a top of the line viewing experience. While there are many other phones out there that are smaller in stature than the Nokia N95-8GB, you would be hard pressed to find a phone with as many features as the 8GB version of the Nokia N95 that is lighter weight or tinier in your hand.
Speaking of features, Nokia has spared no expense in making the N95-8GB the phone that every tech junkie will want to buy. Even though it does not feature a snazzy touch screen like the iPhone, the Nokia N95-8GB does feature a 5 megapixel camera that can also provide for impressive video recording and even features a flash. There is also support for a variety of movie and music formats, 802.11g Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a built in FM radio receiver.
Finally, because the Nokia N95-8GB runs on S60 over Symbian as its operating system, you can expect to see enough features, such as a calculator, calendar, and to-do list that will certainly make it an excellent choice for any business professional with more discerning tastes. Unlike so many other phones that cater to either the high tech junkie market or the corporate market, the Nokia N95-8GB is easily able to do both.
Pros
- Stylish design with a large screen and a sliding keypad
- 8 GB hard drive for storage of plenty of files
- 5 Megapixel camera
- 3G and Wi-Fi support
- More features than nearly any other phone on the market
Cons
- Expensive
- No lens protection on the camera
- Linux operating system would have given more power to the phone
Overall
The Nokia N95-8GB is the phone to get if you want something that looks sharp, can be used in a corporate environment, and will even impress all of your techie friends. Well worth the high price of admission.
