Sometime back we had covered Best Motor Bikes which you can buy in India. You can take this article as a continuation of it :)

Not to mention I too have just bought Bajaj Discover a month back, so this is from my own experience and from what I have been told by the Bajaj mechanic.

  • Before every ride, make sure that tyres of your bike has advised air. For my bike, they have recommended 35 at the back and 25 at the front. If you keep more air in tyres, you will get more mileage but the tyres will wear our early.
  • Make sure that the wheels are tight enough, generally in case of old bikes, there use to be a little more vibration and it causes nuts to get loose. Make sure you check the nuts and bolts regularly and they are not loose.
  • You should make sure your wheels are not spinning and if it does so, contact your auto mechanic and get it tuned. Also make sure that there are not broken loose or broken spokes.
  • Clean the chain regularly and especially during the rainy days, you should keep it clean and well lubricated to avoid rusting.
  • During the rainy season, always wash your bike with water, soap and dry it polish the bike. This will ensure none of the parts get rusted and of course every one like a clean bike.
  • Check and test your brakes and make sure your break pads are correct and the break is functioning well.
  • Break cables need to be lubricated as well, regularly, to make sure it works smooth and there is no rusting in it.
  • While buying fuel (petrol), make sure you buy it from a good filling station and try to use hi octane fuel. Buying fuel from a good filing station ensure you a get a good quality fuel for your bike and your engine will function good for long time.
  • Always go for servicing as per the Owners manual. When you buy a new bike, there are a few servicing free, from the vendor, always availing those servicing will ensure you enjoy your ride.
  • If you have electric start than make sure the first time you use kick start and than later on for the day, you can use electric start. This helps in increasing the life of battery

Needless to say, If you maintain your bike properly, you will enjoy a safe and great riding experience for a long time. There are few more tips for bike maintenance which I will cover in future.
