Top 10 Medical Colleges in India - List of Best Medical Colleges

Earlier I had compiled a list of best 20 Non IIT Engineering Colleges of India so I felt to compiler a similar list for Medical Colleges of India too. So here are the best Indian Medical Colleges/Institutes. If you don't agree with the list than please drop you message in the comment box as I would really like to know why do you think otherwise.

1.All India Institute of Medical Science, Delhi - Undoubtedly the leader in ranking. AIIMS was established in 1956, and since then it has been a premiere Hospital and research and development institution. The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. AIIMS have more than twenty clinical departments and four super specialty centers. Burn cases, dog-bite cases and patients suffering from infectious diseases are not entertained in the AIIMS Hospital. AIIMS also manages a 60-beded hospital in the Comprehensive Rural Health Centre at Ballabgarh in Haryana and provides health cover to about 2.5 lakh population through the Centre for Community Medicine

2. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Pondicherry
JIPMER hospital facilitates allopathic treatments for all diseases and disorders and has a very sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic facilities that are provided free of costs to patients. To handle emergency cases, there are casualty Medical Officer and Resident doctors available 24x7. and for various specialties like Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology, duty doctors are also available. Various types of modern and critical equipments and facilities are available for example CAT scan, Cath Lab, Cobalt Therapy, EEG ECG, Critical Care Unit, Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy unit, Dialysis Unit, Blood bank, Chemists Shop, Public Telephone Booth etc.

3. Christian Medical Collage, Vellore - India Today has ranked Christian medical College as India’s best medical college. CMC Vellore provides graduate courses in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Laboratory Technology, and Medical Records Science, 11 postgraduate medical diploma courses, 23 postgraduate degree courses, and 11 higher specialty courses.  The Medical College also offers a variety of allied health sciences diploma programmes. The main hospital campus in Vellore town, the Mental Health Center and Rehabilitation Center in the college campus, the base hospitals at CHAD and RUHSA and the Ida Scudder Ward and Eye Hospital in the Schell Campus, provide 2,234 beds.

4. Armed Forces Medical Collage, Pune - AFMC, Pune was established in the year 1948 and now 58 years, it is recognized as one of the nest medical college in India. As the name suggests the main intention of the AFMC, Pune is to provide a high-class education and training (to armed forces) of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates, nursing cadets and paramedical staffs. AFMC has various departments like Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Dermatology & Venereology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Anesthesiology, Radiology, Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM), Pathology, Blood Transfusion, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy. All these departments are header by qualified faculty members who are recognised teachers of Pune University and fulfill the requirements of MCI.

5. King George Medical University, Lucknow - King George Medical College, Lucknow, established in 1911 is now known as the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University. Apart from the MMBS, BDS, MD and MS courses, they offer various types of Diploma and Super Specialty Courses. KGMU have a number of departments like Pediatrics, Anatomy, Pediatric Surgery, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Cardiology, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Ophthalmology etc etc complete list of department can be seen here (http://www.kgmcindia.edu/department_list.htm). It has more than twenty operation theaters and one emergency OT each in Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Orthopedics departments. They have one modern and well-managed Intensive care unit. They have special dental wing to provide BDS training as well.

6. Kasturba Medical Collage, Manipal - KMC was established in 1953 and is the first college in the private sector, and ranks among the top six medical colleges in the country today. The Medical Council of India granted recognition to KMC Vellore, in the year 1958. KMC is also affiliated with American University of Antigua

7. Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institution (SRMC), Chennai
Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institution, Chennai is located at Chennai in South India. The medical college has a Deemed University status and runs various medical as well as nursing courses. For Medical courses, it offers Post-graduate MD, MS, Diploma – Courses Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Eye, ENT, Orthopedics and Radiology. There are some other Super Speciality Post - Graduate MCh Courses as well. SRMC also utilizes 300 additional private beds of Sri Ramachandra Hospital.

8. Seth GS Medical Collage, Mumbai
Founded in 1926, the Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) and the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital are well known medical training institutions in India. The medical college provides training to about 2000 students in undergraduate, postgraduate and superspeciality medical courses. It has various departments and offers Masters as well as PhD courses in various allied specialties. The Hospital is really great with more than 550 resident Doctors, 1800 beds and it treats more than 1.8 milion out patients and 68,000 in patients every year.

9. Institute of Medical Science, BHU, Varanasi
Formerly known as College of Medical Sciences, established in the year 1960. IMS offers various Graduate and postgraduate courses; MBBS/MD/MS and post doctoral curses DM/MCh. IMS also has a different section, Faculty of Ayurveda and offers BAMS (5.5 yrs) and MD(Ay)/MS(Ay) of 3 yrs. Apart from these degree courses, IMS offers short term courses in Ayurveda for Foreign Nationals.

10. Bangalore Medical Collage, Bangalore
Bangalore Medical College, Bangalore is one of the best medical colleges. It has been ranked in the best top 10 colleges of India, consistently. Two dedicated Doctors, Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mekhri established the college in the yaer 1955. BMC is now well recognized as Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. BMCRI offers 4.5 yrs MBBS course and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
